Rubbish In The Light

The thought behind this series of 35mm photographs I took is fairly simple: the idea of beauty being subjective. The images are supposed to be poking fun at the idea of beauty and aesthetics, whilst also conveying a serious note that anything can be beautiful in the right light.

Rubbish is seen as disgusting, but it’s just something no longer needed by a person, discarded and disregarded, but stained with the stories of its journey with whoever it belonged to. On another level, the images also act as self portraits, in a comical way, as I often feel quite rubbish as well as used, but, through these images, I tell myself that rubbish is still beautiful. Through my work, I like to be able to break the seriousness that comes with art, and make fun of it all a little, whilst also conveying a somewhat serious message.
