A Theory About Who We Are

Have you ever thought that the person you were always meant to be was always there, but he/she just needed to be triggered by certain people in your life who brought it out in you?

For the first two years of university, I surrounded myself with the same people. Inside jokes intertwined themselves into the art of friendship and enriching bonds were made.

It was like a utopian land for me. But something was missing: I wasn’t growing into the person I felt like I needed to become.

At that point my brain felt too comfortable, relaxed, and lacked challenge.

However, if I seeked to fulfill this challenge to find myself, I would go on this independent journey and put myself in a position to feel lost, confused, and uncomfortable; even risk losing who I was to begin with.

But I wanted my intelligence to feel challenged, and I wasn’t obtaining it here.
So despite the risks, that’s what I did.

If you asked me three years ago if I ever felt sexy, I would say no.
If you asked me today I would say “All the time.”
And that’s because I met people in the dance community who encouraged me to be what I always was.

There was a time in my life when I was afraid of clubs and loud music.
Now I love it.
Like, where else am I going to work on my freestyle game?

Today untradeable individuals surround me.
I trust them to remind me of my core values and ethics.
They do not apologize for who they are and they understand who I am.
They push me educationally, culturally, socially and creatively.
They challenge me to be myself, even though I don’t know who that is yet.
