Memories: They Are All We Have Left

Dear Mom,

I think about you every single day. I miss your presence, unconditional love, and your constant laughter. I miss the jokes you’d tell and seeing you put a smile on other people's faces.

Some days, I can’t help but just sit and think about how life would be if you were still here. I can admit, I wipe tears down my face almost everyday from thinking about you. It seems to be something I can’t control.

When you grieve about a loved one, you feel nothing but emptiness. You feel dysfunctional and your heart feels heavy when you cry. It's almost as if the whole world is crashing down on you. Then there are these constant thoughts that pop in your head like, “Why did you have to go out of all people?” or, “Why did this have to happen to you?” You blame yourself, thinking that somehow if you had done something differently, they would still be around.

I understand that grieving takes time and it is something you must eventually accept because it’s part of life.

The only thing that is keeping my mom alive is the memories I have with her. The memories of her fixing my hair, watching me graduate from middle school, and even the constant nagging to clean my room. I can go on for hours talking about my mom, reliving all the precious moments we spent together because she's still living in my heart and my thoughts.

Memories. They are all that we have left. It's what will keep our loved ones alive.

It's the simple thought of a loved one implemented in your mind that will help them live on, so cherish the moments you have with the people you love because you never know when it’ll be the last time you’ll see them.
