The Future Is Female
When I look at this painting, I see ingrained ideas of femininity, that of a flower, and of beauty. I also see subtle, silent strength. This is my form of expression, my way of contributing to the conversation. The role of women and their position in society is undergoing a state of transition. Equality for women continues to be an important subject. With the #MeToo Movement, men were called out for their actions against women. Consequences were and are being served.
Yet, it is all happening at a cost, one that makes the female susceptible to continued vulnerability, with the sacrificing of personal privacy and the putting of one’s image and reputation on the line.
But, as women, we have the ability to dictate how to pursue this battle for recognition and equity, and how to control the narrative. I believe now is the time for female empowerment. Whether that takes the form of Michelle Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, you, or even me, is dependent on the individual and their belief systems.
For me, “The Future is Female” doesn’t aim to exclude males or other genders. It doesn’t mean that the future is ONLY female. It strives for inclusivity as opposed to exclusivity but also pushes for a different point of view. Males have held the dominant role of power for generations, and it is time to incorporate other voices in the spotlight. Let us speak our truths, with our own words, and challenge the script that was previously forced upon us.
