The Perpetual Search
The Perpetual Search is a long-form video essay exploration of early adulthood. Based on my years from 19-21, I explore the trials and errors of ageing — the depression, frustration and fear that come from the unknown. As young adults, we are unaware of the lonely relatives we face. Most of our lives we are sheltered; there is a mutual understanding from the world around us we are not to know the harsh reality of what it means to be alive. I wanted young people to be able to watch this and know all of the aching and growing pains they are feeling isn’t unnatural but most importantly they are part of the journey. It’s important for us to dispel the false illusions media present to us about our twenties, the extreme pressure to be living our best life. It’s a lie to attempt to conceal the complexity of existing. In the end, all we are left with is a big emptiness. I want girls, black girls, girls who are lonely, and aching to know it’s all part of the journey and eventually you grow into your skin.
