Granny Project

My Granny’s spirit of resilience and good humour saw her live until 92.

A woman of warmth and strength, I was always drawn to her enduring curiosity about the world and the meaning of human experience.

These images serve to preserve and continue her memory, capturing her at home in Cheshire as well as her funeral in Inverness. While the traces of her belongings, act as tangible conduits to the emotions and memories that she relayed as anecdotes.

In the U.K, we have an embarrassing relationship with age. Instead of revering the wisest of the tribe, as many other cultures do - we exchange and institutionalise our elders out of sight and out of mind.

I hope this project helps to illustrate the ephemeral nature of our collective human experience and encourages people to build connections with older generations, as well as honour their memory when they are gone.
