Venus
My piece depicts the statue of Venus, goddess of beauty. The distorted colors and unrefined line work disrupt the formality of a museum setting. Museums have historically been dominated by European culture and standards of beauty, preventing POC artists from having a seat at the table. The exaggerated form of Venus emphasizes this divide; this elite art world is unattainable for those who are disadvantaged.
